The Custom Wedding Ring Design Process

The custom wedding ring journey begins with our wedding ring configurator, allowing you to personalise every detail of your ring, making your dream design a reality. Here’s a step-by-step guide to maximise your customisation experience when creating your bespoke wedding rings. For more information, refer to the configurator help section at the top of the page.

Step 1: Ring Profile

The profile of a wedding ring defines how it looks and fits on the finger. You can choose from rounded or convex profiles to more angular, flat silhouettes based on your preferences.

A convex inner surface, also known as a ‘comfort fit’, is generally more comfortable for daily wear, as it contours to the shape of the finger.

Flat profiles, often favoured by men, give a bold, structured appearance. The clean edges offer a contemporary look that can be smooth or patterned. Experiment with different profiles to find one that matches your personal style.

Step 2: Dimensions

Next, you’ll select your ring dimensions, including the width and thickness, as well as your ring size.

For women, bespoke wedding rings usually range between 1.5 and 3 millimetres, with 2mm being a popular, elegant choice. If you prefer a more delicate look, opt for widths between 1 and 1.5mm.

Men’s wedding rings are typically thicker, with widths between 4 and 7 millimetres. A 5mm width is a great middle ground, offering a presence on the finger without being overly bold.

Step 3: Precious Metal Choice

Here’s where the real fun begins. Choose from our selection of precious metals for your wedding ring—AURONIA offers yellow, white, and rose gold, as well as platinum. You can opt for a single metal or mix them for a bi- or tri-coloured design.

It’s also worth considering the metal's purity. Metals with higher carats, like 18-carat yellow gold, contain more precious metal than 14-carat gold, making the ring more valuable. However, 18-carat gold can also be more prone to scratches compared to 14-carat options.

Step 4: Grooves and Edges

Grooves and edges are often popular features on men’s wedding rings. A groove is a cutout on the ring’s surface that adds depth and dimension—an excellent way to customise a men’s ring without going too elaborate. Grooves can be v-, u-, or square-shaped, depending on your style.

Edges, placed along the sides of the ring, offer another opportunity to personalise your design. You can add edges to one or both sides, with options to alter their width, depth, and finish (polished or matte) to get your perfect look.

Step 5: Stone Setting

Women’s wedding rings often feature stones, though men’s rings can too. If you’d like to add extra sparkle to your ring, choose from settings like pavé, channel, or bezel, and customise the cut, size, and quality of the stones.

You can also choose how many stones to include, where to place them, and even group them for a more intricate design. This is your chance to make your bespoke wedding ring truly unique, so feel free to get creative.

Step 6: Engraving

Give your custom wedding ring a personal touch with engraving. Whether it’s your partner’s initials, a special symbol, or even their handwriting or fingerprint, you can make it happen with AURONIA’s configurator.
